FLUTES FOR ADOPTION

  Specialty/Collector Flutes

Any flutes here are truly one of a kind and the cream of the crop :-)

“Spirit Horse” Mid F# (F#4) 6-hole

(hand print now on flute between block and top playing hole)

Wood is Papua New Guinea walnut, and quite lightweight, even for a solid-end flute. the block is a composite of 4 Ebony ‘hair bands’ epoxied to a Mahogany base, painted to carry the turquoise motif. Horse is a symbol of freedom and running free with unbridled spirit, and safe passage to the ‘new’. Let this beauty carry your music into the winds. note: I added a painted handprint on the flute between the block and the top playing hole...the hand is the mark of an akicita or warrior that he would put on his horse before going into war.

INQUIRE - on exhibit

“Green Heron” low E (E4) 6-hole

Low E “GREEN HERON” tribute flute in figured Walnut, one-piece Basswwood block of finely detailed Heron head (w/ glass taxidermy eyes), and painted ‘Grandfather Rocks’ amidst the rapids that evolve at the end of the flute  ~25” long   $450

In the summer of 2009 I had the opportunity to photograph a Green Heron as it fished in a shallow cove along the shore of Lake Junaluska in Haywood County, NC, hence my inspiration for this flute. While I originally thought of doing some inlay of fish silhouettes at the flute’s foot, I soon felt it wouldn’t look that good. I opted for something more subtle for this ‘story flute’...the grain of the Walnut slowly turning into ripples around 3 “Grandfather Rocks” that know All. Music, like the water, flows through the Ages, as well it should.

“Kingfisher” mid-G (G4) 6-hole

This is a closed-end flute of a Kingfisher, made with quartersawn Southern Red Oak. The block is Claro Walnut in a geometric trapezoid design that I just carved all of a sudden, typical of how I work sometimes. The Kingfisher end is all solid and NOT added on, the tuning hole an extended rectangular opening. It’s a Mid G (G4) and is a bold, wonderful player. The finger holes are rimmed in Walnut. The SAC band insert is Ebony.

$375 + $15 s/h

Mid A (A4) Verdi-tuned “Thunderbird” tribute flute in figured Black Walnut, Claro Walnut block, Turquoise inlay, in a birdbeak design.

$300 + $10 S/H

Mid F (F4) Haida-style loon flute, ~25”. Body is Holly, with Ebony caps. Eastern Cedar block, painted
