The Creation Process

As a flute-maker, myriad creative options are at my disposal. From burning and painting a design, creating a closed-end flute with a carving, to the creation of uniqueness in just about every aspect, all is possible.

I suppose some flute-makers try to standardize what they do, but I trust at this point you are catching on that I can't do that. It's what makes Ugly Boy Flutes very unique musical instruments and objet d'arts in their own right. I let my intuition and Spirit guide me, and it gets no more complicated than that. The vision may come quickly, or it may come over months…and I've learned not to worry about it, as all happens when and as it needs to. Just like life.

First, I really prefer e-mail contact as it is quick, easy, free and very useful in the creation process. Yes, I have some flutes available for sale, but if you have a particular interest in having something custom-made, advice and suggestions are free as the day is long. There is no way I can ballpark a price until I know details of wood choices, design styles, keys, special artwork/inlay…and much more. It is as complicated and as simple as that.

If you want to inquire about a custom order, just do the following: e-mail me to discuss what you are wanting. Parameters to consider are: key, wood type, custom art or not, custom block or not, inlay/painted art, end caps, etc. I really want to leave the door wide open to fulfill a customer's wishes, and I am capable of creating virtually anything.

If we were to agree on a concept, we will then agree on a price and I will start building the flute. Before I ship the flute, I request payment in full, and a check is fine. MY IRON-CLAD GUARANTEE: If after 7 days you just don't like the flute, return it to me and I will refund your money. Each flute is like a child to me, and I will never ever send out a flute I would hesitate to play in a performance. Pretty simple, really. They're my kids.
